As we enter in 2012, many of us want to try a new look, a new hairstyle, or simply follow the latest fashion trend. For the 2012 hair season, we’re seeing tons of new hair trends hitting the scene. From top knots, to pink hair colours, pixie cuts, and slicked backed hairstyles.

Winter 2012 Hair Trends. As we approach the winter season, even though it may be colder outside, we still want to keep our locks updated with the latest hair trends. This winter season is all about updos, and styles that are kept polish, sophisticated and very fashion forward. This means sleek ponytails, side buns, half up half down styles as well as braided looks. When it comes to shorter styles haircuts are leaning more towards men inspired looks with the trends of pixie cut and cropped styles. Half shaven cuts are also very popular this season, which means hair has simply been shaven on one or both sides of them head while leaving some hair in the middle.

Winter 2012 Haircuts. Haircut trends to wear in 2012 winter season. This season many of the latest trends for haircuts include an array of styles. From the head turning look of pixie and crop styles, to shoulder length bobs. One things for sure short hair is definitely getting noticed this season with many celebrities flocking to the trend.

Three of the main hottest hair trends includes the pixie, the crop, and the bob, however all three trends are being updated this season with exotic looks. Shorter looks this year are all about putting your own spin on it. You can add your own spin on your short hairstyle in a variety of ways, shaving a section of your hair while leaving the rest cut. Adding unique colors to your hair such as pink or purple. Or simply framing your face shape. Don’t be afraid to experiment and try something different since almost anything goes this season. Pop in and have a chat at our hairdressers in witney.

If you’re not brave enough to cut all of your hair off why not try something new. Update your look easily through the use of blunt, fringe, or side swept fringes. All three styles are perfect for adding something new to your locks without you having to loose your length. For a really daring look for saving your length and still trying some different, try the half shaved style and still keep the other half of your locks long. This can be a great way to update your look and really bring an exotic feel to your style.

Well we have been extra creative this month at Curl Up and Dye!

When given the opportunity to bring together one of my favourite festive films and my passion of hair design it was time for me to set out and piece together what we could achieve for our end result.

After re-watching the film I extracted the essence of poverty and “making do” with natures tools, such as holly berries twigs and ribbon and formed a trial piece which was presented to the rest of the the team.

We then discussed and brain stormed individual ideas to help get our creative hair design, juices flowing! Everybody had really individual perspectives on A Christmas Carol . This really helped us to pull together and develop two hair creations that were amazing!

We found two great models both of which had previously worked for hair shows and photo shoots. Their cutting edge looks really helped with the overall look of the hair sculptures and of course the pictures.

During our practise run we played around and re- thought our ideas, tweaked final positions of CHRISTMAS TREES and skilfully made real hair bonnets along with lace and trim.

This brought us forward to the actual day where we started off prepping our gorgeous models with scalp plaits and basket weaves and gradually developed the shapes of a Victorian bonnet and tree.

Me with Bekki from the M.A.C.H Team

Three hours into the process the girls from the Claire Hanson M.A.C.H team arrived and added finishing touches with amazing make up, to really give a dramatic feeling to the overall look.

And its time to transport our human tree and ghost like lady to the studio where every detail was put into final place and a collection of varied shots where taken.

I really Enjoyed this experience and gained a sence of pride in seeing our work printed, framed and in the Curl up and Dye, Witney, Salon window.

Curl up and dye’s first collection has been completed and it looks amazing!

When we got told about the project, which was based on a Christmas carol, I was excited/nervous about it as I was intrigued to see what the outcome would look like and what idea we would eventually go for.

After brainstorming lots of ideas I decided to focus on when Scrooge awakes and he’s warmed by Christmas spirit and through this, he acts out in kindness. My inspiration came from his biggest act of kindness which is when he buys the biggest turkey in town for Tiny Tim and his family.
So my idea was quite random but it was to have the hair in a slick side bun on the top of the head and a silver platter to be place around with fake vegetables on top with the bun poking through the centre with afro combs to act as the turkeys wings and knitting needles as the bones, this bun was to represent the turkey that scrooge had brought for Tiny Tim. The other members of the team came up with some really interesting and unique ideas so it was hard to decide what to actually go for.
The practise run went smoothly and by the end of it we knew what we were all going to be doing on the day to create the collection. On the actual day it was very tense as we had a time limit to get the hair done and for the makeup to be all done for the photo shoot, it was interesting to see how it all fitted together to get the final piece and how well the makeup worked with the two ideas as we had the old scrooge and the new scrooge so it was complete opposite looks.

Hope you enjoy our collection

The CUAD’s first collection is based on A Christmas Carol. When I was informed about the project itself I was extremely excited as this was the perfect opportunity for me to release my creative potential as this drives me in the hairdressing industry. Once creative thoughts were flowing I was rearing to go!! Whilst watching the film I was jotting down notes and ideas for the project. Upon completion of the film I then brainstormed each idea thoroughly, researching the era, styling, props, and fashion which was to give me a broader understanding of the task at hand.

Some of my ideas were as follows:

Snowy/cold winter. Frost, icicles.

Old fashioned style clothing for women, children and gentlemen.

Bonnets for ladies.

Oil Lanterns

Quill tip pens

Roasted nuts being sold in the street whilst the children play hola hoop in the snow.

Horse and cart

The ghosts of past, present and future.

The turnaround in character of scrooge.

Are to name but a few…….The main idea for my storyboard was to make the hair into a bonnet just like they wore as this was significant throughout the film.

After all our ideas were researched by ourselves we then joined up and collaborated all information to produce our two themes. The beauty about individual research, it shows off everyone’s own creative styles and I was impressed that all our ideas were different and unique. Once the team decided on the two themes, the search was on for two models that would portray the images the best.

Prior to a practice run we all sourced different materials and hair in preparation for the big day! With 3 days to go before the photo shoot we stayed after hours to put our creative ideas into action. After a few hours hard work this rehearsal enabled us to plan for Sunday’s live shoot.

The actual day worked well and everyone was well briefed including the make up team, from Claire Hanson’s M.A.C.H team. The models were professional, up for a challenge and great to work with. We all worked to the set time schedule and at Squib Photography we finished our final tweaks before the camera was out. It was a wonderful experience to be live onset to experience session styling first hand. It was also awesome to see so many unique ideas come together to create an amazing and dramatic finished product. The models looked great and worked well with the camera and I feel that our message andvision was portrayed as a result. I have learnt that attention to detail is paramount and that the smallest inconsistencies in hair styles in certain light can show up.

Josh & Me work the Christmas Tree

To summarise, this was a wonderful team work experience which unleashed everyone’s creative skill set to achieve one common goal. I feel all worked amazingly together, individually and collectively everyone brought something to the party.

The latest hair accessories for those who want to stand out from the crowd are feather extensions!! They come in a variety of colours from subtle to stand out colours, the feather extensions are installed in the hair using a small micro ring was is clamped safely to the hair, the extensions last up to 4- 6 months depending on how you care for them and how often you wear them, the great thing about the feather extensions is that you can still style the feathers like normal hair so you can
blow-dry them and even straighten them but making sure there on a low heat.
